Fears and Monsters

What scares me?

Drowning

Isolation

being stuck in small places

falling from heights

these things that scare me are important as if a Director uses them I will feel scared, as he will of drawn on my personal fears. However, if the director wanted to scare a large group of people he should use SOCIETIES fears in his films, like..

The world ending

Lack of purpose

Monsters in film are often used to represent something in our society, examples..

the vampire:

the vampire is a representation for the white, straight misogynist man. these men pray on young virgin women and they do it in the dark where no one can see them.

Godzilla:

Metaphor for Nuclear weapons.

The big Friendly giant:

Represents a person who dont know their own strength
People who are clumsy
People who hurt people unintentionally
people who are not self aware and can't communicate well

Once upon a time in Hollywood

The Film language of cross cutting and mise en scene on clothing is used to show how these 2 different couples lives are drastically different. the cross cutting allows us to see the differences in their lives for examples what cars they get into and how people treat them. Mise en scene of clothing shows how they have different amounts of money. we can also see how differences in lighting has been used to show how these people are different, when the 2 men are in the car the lighting is lowkey which connotes a slightly more boring and less flashy lifestyle compared to the famous couple who when driving have the roof down with high key lighting. representation also can be seen in this clip, the 2 men end up in the bar and it is a common negative representation that less wealthy people have substance abuse problems. however, the man and women end up at a nice house.
